Description
Tibet, in the 1990s was a tricky place to get into – and a harder place to leave, if your name was Tseten Kunga; a young Tibetan imprisoned by the Chinese – and facing execution, for the crime of wanting his country back.
Cathy Hunter, smart, sassy, decidedly unspiritual, is railroaded into a trip to the ‘roof of the world’ for somewhat dubious work purposes; in the company of sarcastically enigmatic tour guide Michael Jones, and Gavin and Corrina Purves, a pair of New Age gurus, who fully grasp the wisdom of charging as much as possible for their services.
Meanwhile, in Lhasa, Donnie Hibbert – veteran of the Tibetan peoples’ protests in 1987, and their bloody aftermath, is engaged in a dangerous game of cat and mouse with Major Chiu Li, of the Peoples’ Republican Army, and Wu Shan, China Travel executive, a man torn between the need to turn a profit, and keeping his Beijing paymasters sweet.
Sure, Donnie wants a free Tibet, but he also wants to free Kunga, and he’ll need all the help he can get…
